13 “너희는 세상의 소금이다. 그러나 소금이 제맛을 잃으면 무엇으로 다시 짜게 할 수 있겠느냐? 아무 쓸모가 없으니 밖에 버려져 사람들에게 짓밟힐 따름이다.
14 너희는 세상의 빛이다. 산 위에 자리 잡은 고을은 감추어질 수 없다.
15 등불은 켜서 함지 속이 아니라 등경 위에 놓는다. 그렇게 하여 집 안에 있는 모든 사람을 비춘다.
16 이와 같이 너희의 빛이 사람들 앞을 비추어, 그들이 너희의 착한 행실을 보고 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지를 찬양하게 하여라.”

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, what can make it salty again? It is good for nothing and can only be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.
16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”

2. 묵상 / Reflection

한국어 묵상
소금과 빛이라는 이미지가 주는 메시지는 명확합니다: 제자는 세상을 보존하고 밝게 비추는 도구가 되라는 부르심입니다. 소금은 상하지 않도록 지키며, 빛은 어둠 속을 밝혀 방향을 알게 합니다. 우리가 ‘짜고’ ‘밝은’ 존재로 살아갈 때, 우리의 선한 행실이 하나님께 찬양을 이끌어냅니다. 특히, 묵은 한국 천주교 주교회의의 설명처럼, “세상의 부패와 어둠에는 그리스도인들의 책임이 있다”는 자각 속에서 묵묵히 작은 빛이 되어 세상에 선한 영향을 흘려야 합니다.

 

English Reflection
The metaphors of salt and light call us to preserve and illuminate the world. Salt prevents decay; light dispels darkness. By living as flavorful and bright followers of Christ, our good deeds lead others to glorify the Father. As Korean bishops remind us, Christians carry responsibility for the world’s corruption and darkness—thus, we are called to be that humble salt and quietly shining light that brings transformation .

하느님,
우리는 세상의 소금과 빛이 되라는 예수님의 말씀을 받았습니다.
우리 삶이 맛을 잃지 않도록 지혜를 주시고,
우리 마음이 빛나도록 은총을 내려 주소서.
우리의 작은 선행이 이웃에게 위로가 되고,
주님을 찬양하게 하는 통로가 되게 하소서.
성부와 성자와 성령 안에서. 아멘.

God of light and flavor,
We have heard Jesus’ call to be salt and light in the world.
Grant us wisdom so our salt doesn’t lose its taste,
and grace so our hearts shine brightly.
May our small acts of goodness comfort others
and point them to praise you.
Through the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
